Reply with quote | #1 | Does anyone remember when we fired a missile in 1971 on the shakedown cruise and it came right back at the ship? I was next to Captain Nagler on the upper level.
"Hey Bushman".... "You out there? It's Stretch."
If you remember contact Pete Timan at petertiman@yahoo.com |

As I recall we fired ten that day. I was on deck when it happened. If we are talking about the same time, it didn't really come back to the ship but, rather never really got very far before it malfunctioned and fell into the ocean not far from the ship on the port side. |

Wow, Ten Birds fired off the Rock. That had to have cleaned out almost half of the birds in area 2 of the House, And can you imagin what that deck, launcher and blast doors looked like. You guys must have had plenty to do after the shooting was over didn't you. I know because I remember the clean up after two Birds firing. We were out there cleaning scraping and painting almost before the deck cooled off. But ten, glad it was you and not me. |
